I write so frequently about personal branding because I feel that job seekers still don’t get what it really is, and how much defining and communicating their brand will help them land a job that’s a mutual good fit. I’m gratified when my message does get through, and people take the time to dig deep to define and differentiate what makes them unique and valuable.

I wanted to chime in on the topic of branding. I started reading on such a topic many years ago. In 2014, I remember asking myself so, what is my own brand? Subsequently, I decided to test it and sent out personalized emails to a number of people who know me. I asked that they just reply to my email with only three words listed one under the other. Next, I cut and pasted these three words in an Excel sheet, sorted it alphabetically and then prioritized based on the words most commonly used. From that I created a bar-chart to visualize. The outcome was my brand as viewed by others. A year later, I did the same with Landing Expert, my company. So now I know what comes to peoples’ mind when the name of my company is mentioned. This was a very rewarding little exercise.
